Social Action News -
By Evelyn Passante
Advocating for justice and providing charity for those experiencing hunger and poverty has become
more difficult under current economic conditions. Yet, we as Lutherans, persevere.
Prince of Peace gave $1,484.77 to Haiti Relief through Lutheran World Relief. On January 17th,
Brett LaFronz and Rachel Holliday did a fine job presenting a skit about the earthquake in Haiti.
On January 31st, congregation members signed lunch bags urging our legislators to re-authorize
school breakfast, school lunch, and WIC programs. In February these bags were displayed in
Trenton to remind our legislators about the 1.7 million people in New Jersey who are at the poverty
level. Remember in John 13:34 Jesus commanded, “As I have loved you, so you also should
love one another.”
Deaconess Sunday - March 21st
Pastor Holliday and Deaconess Fischer will be sharing the sermon time to help us better understand the Diaconal Ministry of the Church.
There will be additional information during Coffee Hour (Slides and displays). Please plan to join us on the 21st.
Easter Lilies and Daffodils
These beautiful flowers can be sponsored for the festival of Easter by registering in the narthex/lobby or by contacting Denise Pallatta in our church office.
Sign up sheet in the Narthex. $12.00 each. Please place order by Sunday, March 21st

Attention POP Musicians!

Mix It Up With Moses, Jam With Jesus, Or Just Play While You Play... Prince of Peace is still looking for a few folks to share there musical talents. Perhaps we could start a POP band! If you are interested, please contact Pastor Holliday or Barbara Fitzgerald.
A Thank You...
THANK YOU FROM THE
“WARM FUZZY” CHAPLAIN
I extend my thanks to you, and all who contributed to making the “Warming” gifts. Our Marines received
them with grateful hearts. Additionally, a few destitute Afghani children received some as well.
This made a positive impact beyond the scope of words. Truly, your gift has not only benefitted us but
our overall mission as well!
Our battalion is active in the Helmand Province and to date we have seen the Lord’s miraculous intervention
on several levels. Please pray not only for our physical well-being but also discernment in our
planning.
May god bless you as we celebrate His gift of Jesus to us!
In Christ,
Mike Taylor

Ever Done a Worship Review?
Did you ever look over at the confirmation class kid sitting next to you in church and see him or her scribbling away during the Sunday morning service? Just an FYI - that student is completing one of the responsibilities of a confirmation student: the worship review. Every Sunday morning, the student is expected to attend Confirmation Class (taught be the pastor and assisted by me) and following the class, he/she attends worship, listening intently and taking notes. On this worship review form, the student shares the good news that they got during the service, as well as what they remember about the confirmation class, the lessons, etc.
Wanting to immerse myself in what it feels like to be a student (it's been a while!) I took a blank worship review form and filled it out during the service, side-by-side with my confirmation-age daughter Sam. I must say, doing so was an interesting and rewarding experience. It allowed me to focus on the lessons and the sermon more intensely and really better grasp the meaning of the entire service, as a whole. I turned mine in to the Pastor, just as the students do, but I haven't gotten my grade yet. Maybe it's framed on Pastor's refrigerator!
I encourage you to try this exercise yourself. I will ask Pastor to make some copies of the blank form available in the narthex. If you are feeling ambitious, I invite you to join me in filling one of these forms out - not every week, or we'll have to confirm you again! But just as a means to help you focus, concentrate, re-energize and reconnect. It's also a rewarding way to help you relive your childhood!
Mike Lewis
A Message from Prince of Peace's President
Stewardship is a tough concept to understand and live. To me, stewardship at Prince of Peace is a "leap of faith". Remember in the "Indiana Jones" movie when Harrison Ford walked into thin air with no visible support? That was his leap of faith. POP is my support in these crazy economic and political times. Where else do I have an extended family that cares about me, is there to help me through the tough times and has total faith in me? My leap of faith is my support for POP in time, talent and treasure. I know that the blessings that have been given me are essential for my growth in faith; I need to send back to God my thanks. I ask each of you to look deep inside yourself and decide how you can best give of your time and treasure to your family here at POP. Your POP family is here for you, how can you best support your missions? Stewardship is not about money; stewardship is your giving thanks and supporting those missions that deliver that message. During this stewardship time we have an opportunity to examine these issues and give a commitment to POP. Yes, we need your treasure but we really need your thanksgiving.
- John Hulbrock

Help Our Soldiers Overseas!
Let’s not forget to HELP OUR SOLDIERS. It’s hot, dangerous and lonely overseas!
I especially need donations of: instant packets of hot chocolate; individually wrapped pieces of hard candy; beef jerky; packs of gum; chap stick; small snacks, e.g. cookies, crackers, pretzels; moist toilettes (water is at a premium in the desert!)
Please leave items in the labeled box in the narthex.
One of the soldiers you have been helping me support with your generous donations and cards asked me to pass this message to our congregation:
"I received all the boxes that you had sent, and of course I shared with my fellow troops. Will you please do me a big favor and thank all the nice people that sent me the encouraging cards, I can't possibly address all of them, but I do appreciate it very much. Tell them that I post everyone of them on my wall in my little tiny room.
We do make a difference and I thank all of you, too.

Curbing the exodus of Christians from Jerusalem is vital for peace and stability in the Holy Land
Christians represent a natural and stabilizing presence in the Holy Land and with their churches, schools and healthcare facilities provide vital humanitarian services to all the residence. In addition, they often play an unexpected peace keeping role between the Israelis and Palestinians. Unfortunately, do in large part to a lack of affordable housing, the Christian population has dwindled down to approximately 10,000 people or 2% of the population in Jerusalem. Completion of the separation wall will likely further reduce this figure to less than half that.
Enabling Christians to continue to live in Jerusalem is crucial to the larger goal of realizing the vision of Jerusalem as a city of peace shared by Jews, Christians, and Muslims and an example of reconciliation for the world.
The Mount of Olives Housing Project (MOHP) will provide 84 affordable housing units for Palestinian Christians in Jerusalem with a spirit of ecumenical and inter-religious openness. While serving only 500 or so Christians, this project is symbolic of a larger international effort committed to peace and stability in the greater Middle East. The major cost of purchasing land for the project is avoided because the Kaiserin Augusta Victoria Foundation and the Lutheran World Federation agreed to dedicate 15 dunums (3.75 acres) of land for it. The total financial requirements for this project will be $8M broken down as follows: US Donations $2M, European Partners $4M and $2M in Financing.
The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, the Lutheran World Federation and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land are sponsoring a
Holy Land Summit on the MOHP in October of 2008. The purpose of this summit is to provide participants with an understanding of the issues and challenges faced by Palestinian Christians in Jerusalem and the urgent need for affordable housing. The group will meet with the leaders of the project in Jerusalem and key figures from the Israeli, Palestinian and Muslim communities in Jerusalem and Palestine to talk about the historical and modern day role of Christians in the Holy Land and to gain broad cooperation and support for the MOHP. Participants will experience day trips around the Old City of Jerusalem, around the Mount of Olives and to some of the historic and biblical sites nearby including the Church of the Nativity and Manger Square. They may also add on elements to extend their visit to include travel to Galilee, if their time permits.
If you would like more information about the Mount of Olives Housing Project, and/or the Holy Land Summit, please contact Jim Hooker at
jhooker@mtofoliveshousing.org or Susan Hooker at
